Brazil’s Vinicius to Miss Argentina World Cup Qualifier Due to Injury
The upcoming World Cup qualifier between Brazil and Argentina will be without Brazilian player Junior Vinicius, who is sidelined due to an injury to his left thigh sustained during the match against Colombia.
According to a statement released by the Brazilian Football Confederation on Friday, the 23-year-old Real Madrid star underwent imaging exams which confirmed the injury to his posterior left thigh muscle. This rules him out of the match against arch-rivals Argentina.
Vinicius, a crucial component of Brazil’s attacking lineup, expressed concerns about his fitness for the upcoming match, stating, “Based on what the doctors have told me, it will be a bit difficult,” after Brazil’s 2-1 loss to Colombia on Thursday.
Having left the field in the 27th minute of the World Cup qualifier against Colombia, he remarked, “I think it’s the same injury as before. I felt a pain at the back of my thigh.”
The Brazilian star had previously missed a month of action after injuring his right thigh in August during a league match for Real Madrid. This led to his absence in Brazil’s first two South American qualifying matches against Bolivia and Peru in September.
With Brazil already without key players like Ederson, Danilo, Casemiro, and Neymar, who are all sidelined due to injuries, the team faces a challenging situation as they prepare to take on Argentina, the current leaders in the qualification standings, at Rio’s Maracana Stadium.
