Doctors remove octopus from patient’s throat (photos)

The patient’s throat discomfort was revealed to be caused by an octopus stuck in his gullet, leaving doctors shocked. The man, who remains unnamed, experienced vomiting after consuming an octopus meal, along with difficulty in swallowing, prompting a visit to Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore. A CT scan showed a dense mass in his esophagus, and an esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed the tentacled creature lodged near the esophagus-stomach border. Despite initial unsuccessful attempts to remove the octopus, doctors eventually succeeded in extracting it from the patient using forceps after navigating the endoscope past the animal and into the stomach. Fortunately, the patient made a full recovery and was discharged two days later. The medical team detailed that the “push technique” is the recommended method with a high success rate for such cases, although caution is advised to avoid esophageal perforation.
