Former White House butler, Wilson Roosevelt Jerman who served 11 presidents including Barrack Obama dies of Coronavirus at 91
The passing of Wilson Roosevelt Jerman, a former White House butler who served 11 presidents, including Barack Obama, has been attributed to coronavirus. Mr. Jerman, who began his five-and-a-half-decade career as a cleaner under the Dwight Eisenhower administration in 1957, passed away at the age of 91. His granddaughter, Jamila Garrett, confirmed the sad news to Fox News, stating that he died on Friday, May 15.
Jerman was promoted to the role of butler by Former First Lady, Jackie Kennedy, during John F. Kennedy’s presidency in the 1960s. According to Garrett, Jackie O played a significant role in his promotion due to their relationship. She described her grandfather as a genuine, family-loving man and emphasized his dedication to serving others, regardless of who they were or what they needed.
Garrett expressed her desire for the world to remember her grandfather’s authenticity and emphasized the importance of carrying on his legacy. She also shared that Jerman had a close working relationship with the Bush family and recounted how he used to sit with George Bush Jr. in his bedroom until he fell asleep during his father’s presidency. Former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush fondly remembered Jerman in a statement to NBC, describing him as a lovely man who was an integral part of their daily routine at the White House.
Expressing gratitude to Michelle Obama, Garrett highlighted the inclusion of a photograph of Jerman in the former first lady’s bestselling memoir, Becoming. She mentioned that it serves as a way for their family to feel connected to his legacy, especially in light of the challenges posed by the inability to grieve physically together due to current circumstances.
After reducing his role to part-time, Wilson Roosevelt Jerman retired in 2012, marking the end of his extensive and dedicated service.
