Man kills fiancee in front of their baby in murder-suicide
The tragic incident unfolded on May 26 when Carlos Diaz, 25, from Florida, USA killed his fiancée, Amanda Hicks, 26, and then proceeded to take his own life in their Port St. Lucie apartment. The horrific event occurred in front of their 11-month-old daughter, Alani, who was left crying in her crib.
According to a friend of the teacher, the couple had been trying to work through their issues, including alleged infidelity on Hicks’ part. However, Diaz’s rage seemed to stem from various factors, including suspicions about paternity and the aftermath of Hicks’ abortion. The deteriorating relationship was exacerbated by living with Diaz’s family, and Hicks’ drinking habits had also become a source of conflict.
The couple had recently moved into the Port St. Lucie apartment in an attempt to salvage their relationship. Despite the challenges they faced, sources described them as being in love, with Hicks finding happiness in her relationship with Diaz.
However, a friend of Diaz revealed that he was no longer committed to repairing the relationship and had intentions of separating from Hicks, seeking full custody of Alani.
The tragic events unfolded in the early hours of the morning, with reports of screaming and a single gunshot at 12:47 a.m. The police arrived after receiving a welfare check request from a relative, discovering the devastating scene. Alani, who had been in the apartment with her deceased parents for 11 hours, was placed in the care of Diaz’s parents.
The couple had previous encounters with law enforcement before they began dating, with Diaz having an assault case in 2020 and Hicks having two charges of driving under the influence in 2019 and 2021. Hicks had also faced personal challenges, having lost her mother to cancer and growing up without her father.
This heartbreaking incident has left a young child orphaned and a community reeling from the tragic loss.
