Queen Elizabeth II strips Harvey Weinstein of his CBE after he was jailed for 23 years for rape in New York

Queen Elizabeth II has taken back Harvey Weinstein’s CBE after he was handed a 23-year jail sentence for rape in New York. The Queen of England has stripped Harvey Weinstein of his 2004 Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire honor (CBE), which was awarded for his contribution to the British film industry. This decision was made after Weinstein was convicted of rape in New York and sentenced to 23 years in prison by a US court in February.

The official public record of the UK, The Gazette, announced today that the Queen has directed the honour to be revoked and his name erased from the Register of the said Order. Harvey Weinstein’s appointment as an Honorary Commander of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, dating back to January 19, 2004, has been annulled.

This move came after several women, including prominent actresses such as Ashley Judd, Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Léa Seydoux, made allegations of harassment and sexual misconduct against Weinstein. Senior Labour MP Chi Onwurah had previously called for Weinstein’s CBE to be rescinded when these accusations came to light.
