Rapper 42Dugg arrested after failing to surrender to serve a six month prison sentence
The 27-year-old American rapper, 42 Dugg, has been apprehended by federal agents for not turning himself in to authorities in order to serve a six-month prison term for illegally possessing a firearm. The Detroit News reported that the rapper failed to report to a federal prison camp in West Virginia last month. This led to an absconding charge, which could result in up to five years of imprisonment. The charge is linked to an incident in which he allegedly discharged a weapon inside a gun range in Atlanta.
On May 5, 42 Dugg was taken into custody in Detroit after arriving on a private jet from Memphis. According to his attorney, Steve Scharg, the authorities were waiting to greet him as soon as he stepped off the plane.
Surveillance footage from the gun range showed 42 Dugg and two others handling and firing a 9 mm Glock pistol. Due to his previous convictions for carjacking and felony firearms possession, he is prohibited from possessing firearms. In March 2020, he was arrested on charges of felony firearm possession. His attorney managed to keep him out of jail during the COVID-19 pandemic, and he was given a three-year probation sentence.
However, his probation was threatened to be revoked after testing positive for drugs, leading him to file an appeal. In February, his probation was indeed revoked and he was sentenced to six months in prison followed by two years of probation.
