Singer Lizzo asks judge to dismiss harassment lawsuit from former wardrobe stylist
Lizzo, the American singer, has submitted a request to dismiss a harassment and discrimination lawsuit filed by her former tour wardrobe stylist, Asha Daniels. Lizzo’s legal team has filed a motion to dismiss the suit, referring to Daniels as a ‘disgruntled’ employee. They have stated that the lawsuit is ‘meritless and salacious’ and made the request on the grounds that it was filed in the wrong location. They also alleged that Daniels failed to perform the assigned work and eventually abandoned her responsibilities.
This lawsuit from Daniels comes after Lizzo was sued by several former dancers who accused her of sexual harassment, fat shaming, and creating a hostile work environment. Lizzo’s legal team has also cited the location of filing and the lack of nexus to California as reasons for the dismissal.
In response to the dismissal request, Daniels’ attorney, Ron Zambrano, released a statement, criticizing Lizzo’s attempt to shift blame to the victims and expressing commitment to seeking justice for their clients.
Asha Daniels had alleged a ‘sexualized, racially charged, and illegal work environment’ while working for Lizzo, claiming she was physically assaulted, threatened, and told she wasn’t allowed to eat. She also filed a lawsuit against Lizzo, citing physical and verbal abuse by her manager, Amanda Nomura.
However, Lizzo’s spokesperson denied Daniels’ claims, stating that she had never met or spoken to the star. Daniels has sued for sexual and racial harassment as well as disability discrimination, seeking damages including unpaid wages and loss of earnings.
