Sultan of Brunei's daughter, Princess Azemah, marries her first cousin in lavish week-long wedding
The week-long wedding of Princess Azemah, the daughter of the Sultan of Brunei, and her first cousin, Prince Bahar ibni Jefri Bolkiah, took place in a grand ceremony at the Sultan’s Palace. The extravagant celebrations commenced on January 8 on the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia.
Prince Bahar, who is the son of the Sultan’s brother, Prince Jefri Bolkiah, was united with Princess Azemah in a series of lavish events at the palace Istana Nurul Iman, the sultan’s official residence. The festivities included seven ceremonies, such as the traditional gift exchange, the presentation of the royal insignia, a three-day wedding ceremony, and a dining reception.
The bride’s younger brother, Prince Mateen, shared glimpses of the wedding on his Instagram, featuring photos from the Powdering Ceremony and the final wedding rite, which took place on January 15.
The Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, is renowned as the world’s longest-serving living monarch. He holds numerous titles and positions within the country, including absolute monarch, supreme leader of the Islamic faith, prime minister, finance minister, foreign affairs and trade minister, superintendent of police, defense minister and commander of the armed forces, and chancellor of the national university. His personal wealth is estimated at $27.7 billion, placing him among the world’s richest rulers.
