Terrorists capture UN helicopter with eight passengers in Somalia

An emergency landing in a region controlled by al-Shabaab in Somalia resulted in the capture of a United Nations helicopter with eight passengers on board by the terror group. UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric revealed this news on Wednesday, as reported by CNN. The helicopter had to make an emergency landing due to a mechanical issue, as stated by the Somali National News Agency (SONNA), which is maintained by the al-Qaeda-affiliated terror group in the Galmudug region. SONNA also reported that the passengers are foreigners, and a rescue operation is currently in progress. The United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) stated that the helicopter was conducting an air medical evacuation and assured that additional information would be released as it becomes available. This incident comes shortly after the death of Maalim Ayman, a senior leader of the al-Shabaab militant group in Somalia and Kenya, who was killed on December 17 as a result of a joint military operation between Somali and US forces.
