The cost of the IDP housing project using direct labour will be N3 million each, says Minister Edu
Dr Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, carried out an inspection of houses under construction for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Idu area of the FCT on Tuesday.
The construction of one and two-bedroom houses aims to provide accommodation for IDPs in various states as part of the country’s efforts to combat multi-dimensional poverty, according to Edu.
Edu stated that each house will be built at a cost of N3 million through direct labour involving the intended beneficiaries.
”The Tinubu administration has made a commitment to provide shelter for a minimum of five million displaced and vulnerable households in Nigeria.
“As you may recall, the federal government recently approved the humanitarian trust fund, with 30 per cent contribution from the government and the remaining 70 per cent from donor agencies and individuals.”
The minister mentioned that a similar project for IDPs has begun in Benue.
According to Edu, “The groundbreaking of this project was carried out in Benue, and as of now, they have completed the clearing of about 10 hectares for the construction of 40 houses.”
She noted that the structures are quick and easy to build, which will expedite the provision of houses to IDPs in various parts of Nigeria, particularly in Borno, Zamfara, Adamawa, Yobe, and other areas. (NAN)
