Wike vs Fubara: Rivers Youths Demand Governor Reject Tinubu’s Peace Deal (Watch Video)
A warning has been issued to Governor Siminalayi Fubara by some youths in Rivers State, urging him against recalling the resigned commissioners from his administration and re-submitting the 2024 budget to the House of Assembly. The youths, who held a large protest in Port Harcourt on Friday, threatened to occupy the Government House if their demands are not met.
President Bola Tinubu and other stakeholders facilitated an agreement between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, to resolve the political crisis in the state on Monday evening. However, political analysts and observers have criticized the agreement, claiming it favors Wike over Fubara. In their protest in Port Harcourt on Friday, the Rivers youths called on Fubara to reject the agreement.
One of the protesting youths stated, “We’re calling on the governor not to recall any Commissioner. Any attempt to recall any Commissioner, we’ll occupy the Government House. Nyesom Wike did not vote for Sim alone. We also voted for Sim. We’ll not allow anybody to truncate the will of Rivers people. So we’re calling on the Governor, don’t be under any pressure from anybody. We want to call on the Governor, don’t return the budget to the Assembly. The Rivers State House of Assembly has only one Speaker recognized by the law, Edison Ehie. And as such, the seats of the 27 lawmakers are vacant. We want to call on the Governor, we voted for you and you must listen to us, Tinubu is not from Rivers State.”
Rivers State Youths Warn Governor Sim Fubara not recall any commissioner that resigned or represent the budget again if not they will occupy the government house.
