Young Thug’s Lyrics Will Be Used in Trial
Young Thug’s RICO trial has commenced with expectations that prosecutors will utilize his lyrics as evidence. The rapper is confronting serious charges, including conspiracy, participation in criminal gang activity, and possession of firearms and controlled substances.
Having pleaded not guilty, the rapper’s defense attorney is confident in clearing his name through the proceedings, despite being one of several defendants in the case. The allegations date back to 2015 and involve co-defendants facing charges ranging from murder to armed robbery.
Prosecutors are facing criticism for intending to reference specific YSL members’ lyrics in the case, raising concerns about the interpretation of rap lyrics as evidence. The targeted songs include Young Thug’s “Anybody” from 2018 and tracks from YSL’s 2020 album, which prosecutors claim explicitly reference criminal activity.
While Young Thug’s trial progresses, his labelmate Gunna has already accepted a plea deal, resulting in his release from custody. He received a 5-year sentence with the remaining 4 years suspended, provided he refrains from further trouble.
